Application forms

New IB DP students are only accepted in June each year (for the autumn term), the deadline is in May/June. New Pre-IB students are accepted in June and if places are available, applicants could be accepted into the  Pre-IB for the spring term.

Please read the admission policy and the language policy before applying.

The IBDP/Pre-IB deadline for the autumn term 2026 is June 10th for students born in 2010 (both for IB application forms and application on the education portal ). Students born in 2009 or earlier: The deadline is May 26th. The deadline for applications for pre-IB study in the spring term 2027 is November 20th.

The general rule is that students who are completing 10th grade (or equivalent) in the spring 2026 (born 2010) apply for the preparation year and older students (17-18 years old) apply for the IB DP if they have completed one year in an upper secondary school and fulfill the acceptance requirements (see below).

It is recommended that applicants meet the IB DP coordinator before they apply.

In some cases, placement tests are required or recommended. Placement tests are available in English, various languages (eg French, Spanish, German, Danish) and Math (applicants graduating from 10th grade in Iceland do not take any placement tests).

Comments/references from teachers are much appreciated. Information regarding the grading scale in previous schools is necessary and ranking is appreciated, if published by the school. All documents should be legally translated to English. The Diploma programme is very demanding and suits mostly hard-working and highly motivated students with good academical skills and excellent English skills. To apply for the IB study, students should preferably have minimum B+ in English and B in Math, History and Natural sciences or equivalent from schools in other countries. See further details in the links below.

Preferably, students should have at least the grade 7 in English, Math, History and Natural Sciences.

Nánari upplýsingar veitir Alda IB-stallari í síma 595-5233 eða með tölvupósti, ibstallari(at)mh.is.

To apply for Pre-IB/IB, students must both submit an electronic application on  the Education Portal  and fill out an application form ( preparatory year  or IB course ) online. Supporting documents can be uploaded with IB/Pre-IB applications or sent by post (do not upload to the Education Portal). It is important to prepare applications carefully. Teacher references are not mandatory but are preferred. It is desirable to include academic records for at least the last two school years and grades from standardized exams in grade 9. If applicants come from abroad, all documents must be in English and the school's grading scale must be included. It is also good to get information about how applicants perform in comparison with other students (ranking). Remember that the IB program is a very demanding and academic program. It is best suited to ambitious, disciplined and hardworking students and is an excellent preparation for university studies.  The same admission requirements apply to applicants for the Pre-IB program as apply to other applicants to the school. However, it is desirable that Pre-IB students have a minimum of B+ in English and B in history and science (and Icelandic if applicable). Students applying for direct entry to the IB program must have completed one year of upper secondary school (approximately 60 credits) and must meet the IB program progression requirements (have achieved a minimum grade of 5 in all courses and an average grade of 6 or higher).

Note: Icelandic A is a compulsory subject for Icelandic students. MH strongly emphasizes that all Icelanders who are able to do so should take Icelandic as a mother tongue at MH, even if they have lived abroad for a short or long time. Icelanders take ÍSLE2AA05 and ÍSLE2BB05 during the preparatory year. Exceptions are only granted on academic grounds and each case is assessed by MH's Icelandic teachers.
