The IB Hexagon
The IB diploma programme students choose to study six subjects – one from each of the subject areas highlighted in the diagram shown above. The groups are:
Group 1: language A1 – mother tongue that requires very good writing and oral skills and respect for the literary heritage of the student’s first language.
Group 2: second language – at MH students can study English, Danish, German, French and Spanish as a second language. There are many different levels of ability.
Group 3: individuals and societies – at MH students can study history and psychology.
Group 4: experimental sciences – biology, chemistry and physics.
Group 5: mathematics and computer science – only mathematics are offered at MH at three different levels.
Group 6: the arts – MH offers students the possibility to study visual arts.
But the IB diploma programme is about more than these six subject groups. At the heart of the programme there are three core elements that are inherent part of the curriculum and make the IB unique. These are the Theory of knowledge (TOK), Extended essay and Creativity, action and service (CAS).
