The diploma

THE DIPLOMA

For each tested subject grades are awarded from 1 (minimum) to 7 (maximum) and up to three “bonus” points may be awarded for good results in extended essay (EE) and theory of knowledge (TOK).  For their final IB diploma candidates must meet certain educational conditions and fulfil specific requirements, e.g. as for the number of total points. All components for each of the six subjects in the IB DP must be completed, as well as the CAS, TOK and extended essay requirements, in order to qualify for the award of the diploma. The minimum total score is 24 points and the maximum is 45 points, including the maximum of three extra points awarded for the combined performance in TOK and EE.

All IB students in MH are encouraged to embark on a complete IB diploma course. Those who do not fulfil the conditions for complete full time studies, or for some reason prefer to study part time, will receive an attestation for each course they take. The majority of IB candidates opt to take the final examinations in May each year, although a few may opt for the November session. The November session is, however, mainly intended for schools located in the south hemisphere, or for retake candidates. Each year 80% of students who aim for the IB diploma succeed in pursuing this aim.

Those finishing their courses at MH will also receive a school certificate and it is worth mentioning that IB students at MH can supplement their international diploma by taking extra courses in the national system if they so wish.
